Agility
Dog agility is an exciting sport where you and your dog work together to navigate an obstacle course as quickly and accurately as possible. In agility, dogs run off-lead, and while no food or toys are used as incentives, the bond between handler and dog shines through. You can only use your voice, movements, and body signals to guide your dog, making it a true test of teamwork and training. Agility is not just a test of physical skill but also a wonderful way to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, all while having a lot of fun!
Our agility classes are held on Monday and Tuesday nights, offering beginner classes and beyond. Training can be for fun or competition at local independent or larger Kennel Club shows. Alison, Jude, and Sharon train all levels and have extensive experience with various dog breeds at a competitive level.
The agility course features a variety of obstacles, such as jumps, tunnels, and weave poles. These obstacles are set up in a specific order, and it’s up to you and your dog to complete them correctly. Successfully completing an agility course requires human direction, as the obstacles and their order can be quite complex. In competition, you’ll need to assess the course, plan your strategy, and guide your dog with precision and speed. There are many strategies to help you and your dog work together effectively, compensating for the differences in your speeds and leveraging your unique strengths.
